MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DESIGN
Mechanical, Electrical, Software - the heart, soul and mind of your product design.
Morelli Engineering has been involved in many aspects of mechanical and thermal engineering product design, from component and PCB mechanical design to electronic packaging to complete systems. Below is a sampling of these.

Gerry has been consulting for FLIR since 2002. He is our go-to guy for thermal analysis and design, and for all aspects of mechanical design of printed circuit boards. In those two areas, he is the best mechanical engineer I have worked with. He consistently delivers designs that work, on time. As long as he is available, I will continue to employ him on my projects."

ELECTRONIC PACKAGING DESIGN
ATM Display
We designed this complete package for an outdoor ATM machine. Rugged environment, high expectations from customer.
|
Power Supply Module
An easy to access medical device power supply module.
Simple, robust. |
Point of Sale Display
This commercial point of sale display helps customers self check at a major retailer.

THERMAL DESIGN
Electronics are unhappy at high temperatures, so we help them keep their cool. This means finding the best fan for the job and operating at the sweet spot. It means optimizing the heat sink, and understanding the PCB components and cooling methods. It means knowing when to bump up the approach to heat pipes or other methods.
“I've worked with Gerry since 2003. His designs are in many different areas of our airborne products, such as internal gearing, servos, motors, solenoids and printed circuit board envelopes. His designs are some of our most robust and well thought out systems. Gerry has been our go-to guy for thermal designs, and has come up with some unique modeling tools. Gerry always keeps the projects going in the right direction.”

VIBRATION DESIGN
This vibration fixture design satisfied a major auto manufacturer with a difficult part to shake and tough requirements.
|
Military and rugged industrial components must operate in severe vibration environments, and their resonance needs to be properly tuned.
|
We had to increase the resonant frequency for a military application PCB to prevent sensitive components from coming loose.
|
PCB MECHANICAL DESIGN
PCBs need mechanical design too. How much room can we give the layout team and make it efficient? Where will we put those tall components? What stack height do we need to keep the parts cool?
From concept to cooling to complete documentation for Layout to work from.

"Gerry and I have worked together on several electronic packaging projects and I have been impressed with his ingenuity and attention to detail. As an EE, I find that most MEs tend to start with a ridiculously small space claim for your electronics and negotiate upwards. Gerry is much more reasonable and starts with a realistic space claim from the beginning. I find that approach refreshing and much easier to work with from a technical standpoint.
Gerry is also easy to work with from a personal level -- easy going and doesn't get upset when things have to change (as they always do!).
Everything that he and I have collaborated on has worked as specified and gone into production."

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DESIGN - ASSEMBLIES
You have to be able to see the big picture as well as the detail for a good design. We get it - and we have for quite some time.
From left: Medical product with heavy use of sheet metal; an electronic housing with both sheet metal and castings. One particularly fun project was designing wing seats for a sailboat that fold for trailering yet hold 450 lb. on the water.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DESIGN - COMPONENTS
Components are the building blocks of solid designs. We have extensive experience with precision machined metal and plastic components, with detailed sheet metal designs, and injection molded parts.
